You need a smart meter to access smart tariffs and we need access to smart meter data to get you a smart tariff recommendation.

If you don't already have a smart meter, you might be missing out on savings and failing to get the most out of your smart devices. The reason for this is that energy suppliers need to be able to vary electricity prices by the half-hour for smart tariffs to work, and only smart meters have the ability to record and communicate half-hourly consumption data back to suppliers.

Installing a smart meter is free and is the responsibility of your energy supplier. A new installation includes the smart meter itself (one for electricity and a separate one for gas, if you have it), a communications hub attached to the meter, and an in-home display so you can easily monitor your usage.

Requesting a smart meter is quick and easy. Industry organisation SmartEnergyGB provides a tool to connect you with your energy supplier and start the application process process. Click here to begin.  Or you can just get in touch with your energy supplier directly via their website.
